The Ladyhawks ended the 2006 season on
the road with a very important match against the Cleveland
Internationals. The Ladyhawks were looking to end the
season with two wins and Cleveland was looking to make the
W-League playoffs. The Minnesota Lightning were held to a 1
- 1 draw at Chicago Saturday night so Cleveland knew a win
would put them in 2nd place and into the playoffs.
The match began well for Cleveland as Courtney
Rosen scored on an assist from Heloisa
Oliveria in the 20th minute. The match settled
down and the scored stayed 1 - 0 until the 60th minute when
the Ladyhawks' Sarah Gaunt scored an
unassisted goal. Cleveland's playoff hopes were dealt a
further blow when the Ladyhawks got an own goal to go up 2
- 1 in the 64th minute. The Internationals were able to
salvage a draw when Keri Sarver scored an
unassisted goal in the 90th minute.
Saturday, July 22, 2006 - Lakota West
Stadium
The Ladyhawks closed out the 2006 home schedule in style
with an 8 - 1 win over the West Michigan Firewomen.
Nicole Billin gave W. Michigan the lead
with an unassisted goal in the 15th minute. This seemed to
wake up the Ladyhawks as the showered the W. Michigan goal
throughout the rest of the first half. The Ladyhawks
totaled 14 shots in the first half which resulted in four
goals. Katie Comisar leveled the match in
the 20th minute when she lobbed the W. Michigan keeper from
30 yard s out. Amber Silvis gave
Cincinnati the lead in the 33rd minute with Sarah
Gaunt recording the assist. Audra
Mathews scored in the 43rd minute on an assist
from Kristen Votapek and Votapek finished
the first half scoring in the 45th minute on an assist from
Silvis.
The second half saw Cincinnati's Robin
Reese finally rewarded for the hard work and
creativity she displayed in the first half. Reese scored in
the 54th minute on an assist from Kristen
Votapek. Suzie Keller then scored
in the 66th minute with Audra Mathews
recording the assist. Christina Bennett
made the score 7 - 1 in the 81st minute. Kristen Votapek
had the assist on that goal. Votapek then finished the
scoring with an unassisted goal in the 90th minute.
The Ladyhawks dominated the second half in even greater
fashion than the first as they recorded 8 shots while
giving up none.
Cincinnati finishes the 2006 season on the road tomorrow as
they travel to Cleveland to play the Cleveland
Internationals.
